Lydall History

The Lydall and Foulds families started manufacturing in Manchester, CT in 1869. In that year Henry Lydall, began the manufacture of knitting needles and wire specialties. Three paper manufacturing companies were subsequently established.

The Lydall and Foulds Paper Company is established.

The William Foulds Company is established.

The Colonial Board Company is established.

Lydall Transport, Ltd., was organized in 1951 and later became known as Lydall Logistics Management.

The Colonial Board Company acquires The Lydall & Foulds Paper Company.

The Colonial Board Company becomes publically traded.

The Colonial Board Company merges with the Superior Steel Ball Company to form Lydall, Inc.

Lydall acquires an operation which was a joint development effort between Scott Paper Company and Chatham Manufacturing.

Today this plant in Hamptonville, North Carolina, is a part of Lydall's Thermal/Acoustical business which produces heat shields and acoustical barrier systems for vehicles.

Lydall Manning is formed through acquistion.

Today this plant in Green Island, New York, is a part of Lydall’s Performance Materials segement.

In 1989, Lydall was listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol LDL.

Lydall acquires Solutech B.V., a specialty microporous membrane company from Royal DSM N.V.

Lydall acquires the industrial air filtration business from Andrew Industries Limited.

Lydall acquires Texel, a leading producer of
innovative technical materials, from ADS, Inc.

Lydall acquires Gutsche, a leading producer of high performance nonwovens.
