Lydall Launches Lean Six Sigma Initiative

In keeping with its previously stated goal of realizing Lydall’s underlying profit potential by managing costs and improving efficiencies, Lydall has launched the Lydall Lean Six Sigma (LLSS) initiative. Lydall’s program takes advantage of the methodologies of two well-known continuous improvement efforts: 1) Lean Manufacturing, to focus on the elimination of waste, and 2) Six Sigma, to eliminate variation in its processes and products. Lydall expects greater customer satisfaction as well as improved financial performance as a result of the LLSS initiative.

The Company anticipates the extensive training of key employees to begin in the fourth quarter of 2005 and to continue for approximately 18 months. The LLSS initiative will address both operational excellence and employee development. Executives throughout the Company will participate in the initial training and will be responsible for implementing individual projects and communicating the importance of LLSS to the whole organization.

David Freeman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Lydall commented, “We all need to be able to ‘walk the walk’ and ‘talk the talk’. It is of utmost importance that all our executives understand the process and the tools and are properly trained to implement this program. The management of Lydall is committed to LLSS. We believe that the success of this program will be key to our attaining our goal of long-term growth and profitability. I look forward to keeping all our stakeholders up to date on our progress.”
