Job Title: Human Resource Specialist

Reports To: Human Resource Manager

Job Description:  Provides Human Resources support to a Lydall field facility. Provides services related to all terms of employment, benefit administration, unemployment, salary guidelines, worker’s compensation, educational training, etc. Provides assistance on projects and initiatives as directed by the Operations Manager and Human Resources Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the recruitment of all hourly and non-managerial salaried employees; consults with the hiring manager, schedules and conducts interviews, performs reference and background checks, arranges for post offer physicals and provides full orientation for new hires. May assist HR Manager in the recruitment efforts of managerial candidates.
  • Ensures compliance at local level with major state and federal employment and labor laws (FMLA, FLSA, ADA, Sexual Harassment, etc.), and provides “hands on” guidance to supervision. Maintains all systems, records, and transactions to comply with regulatory reporting including HIPAA, SOX.
  • Acts as an advisor to supervisory personnel on all employee-related matters (i.e. recruitment, hiring, leaves of absence, attendance, disciplinary actions, and termination issues). Processes all employment and benefits paperwork into HRIS and maintains personnel files for the local operation.
  • Processes all terminations appropriately with third party Unemployment Cost Control administrator. Monitors all unemployment claims for accuracy. Creates and maintains all termination paperwork as required and participates in all unemployment hearings.
  • Maintains good employee relations by being actively involved with employee issues to prevent any adverse actions.
  • Conveys company benefits and maintains all on-site benefit administration, and communication.
  • Participates in conducting employee meetings and communicates any follow up activities to the facility’s employees.
  • Conducts local salary surveys to ensure the validity of our pay structure.
  • Writes and updates job descriptions as necessary.
  • Promotes harmony in the workforce through good and open communication; fair, consistent, and respectful treatment.
  • Promotes safety through active participation and support of company safety policies and programs.
  • Tracks all work-related injuries and records OSHA logs.
  • Monitors all short-term disabilities. Processes proper forms and actively pursues a return-to-work program in collaboration with the employee’s physician(s).
  • Updates and maintains all employee training records and organizational charts
  • Ensures that all company and location policies and procedures are effectively communicated, supported and administered
  • Maintains an open dialogue with HR Manager on issues of importance within the operations
  • Must be knowledgeable in the effective use of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) tools and concepts to assist in process improvements, both within Lydall, and externally at our customers/suppliers. Serve as an active participant in LSS programs that promote continuous improvement.
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Must adhere to all company policies and safety rules.
  • Must be able to work extended hours when required.

Minimum Education, Experience, and/or Skills Required:

  • Must possess B.S. degree in Human Resources or related field; or an equivalent of education and experience.1-3 years experience in Human Resources
  • Must be knowledgeable about employment laws and regulatory issues (i.e. ADA, FMLA, EEO, AAP, etc.)
  • Computer literate. Microsoft Office proficiency required. Must have above average communication and organization skills.
  • Must be able to multi-task and have an attention to detail.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively in a fast paced environment

Minimum Education, Experience, and/or Skills Preferred:

  • ADP processing
  • Experience supervising others
  • SOX reporting requirements- working for a publicly traded company
  • Working in a manufacturing environment
